It's time again..
When I was a kid, I had tons of fun completing Pokémon Blue, over and over again. But, who didn't?
Years and years later, I decide it's time to catch them all again, with the release of Pokémon Pearl/Diamond.
Being a man, I offcourse choose the pink one.
I was dazzled by all the new stuff in a matter of seconds, the new pokémon, the..well, everything!
Now, some time later Pokémon Platinum was released, and I've sworn to my dear friend Adam to do a review.
But I decided I'd actually complete the game first to truly experience all the changes and pro/con's.
Yesterday it happened, I finished the Elite Four and could get the last things in the game.
At first, this game really dissapointed me.
The new stuff I had looked forward to, Shaymin and Darkrai mainly, were only obtainable through Nintendo Events, newsflash Nintendo.
We don't have those here!
What I had looked forward to I couldn't get.
I was ready to kill someone. Really.
So what did this man of pink videogames do?
He stoped playing the fucking game.
And now, much later he found out you could get the new legends via s.c Wi-Fi events, several weeks after the first 2 of 3 events were over!
Still, I was able to net myself an item giving me the chance to catch Darkrai.
Pumped up on this small victory I took up playing Platinum again, fought hard to complete the Elite Four and catch the SOB.
After doing so I also went to Trainer Island, and found a new world of competition, the game had a purpose after all?
Yes!
The Trainer Island now has no less then five modes compared to the previous puny one mode.
The one mode that was practically unbeatable unless EV IV training was your fetish. Wich it was, don't get me wrong, but after a while breeding Pokémon gets to even the most leveling obsessed person.
Trainer Island now has the Rental Mode, or 'Factory' as the game named it, from Pokémon Emerald.
The Castle Mode, allowing you to win points in battles with wich you can strategically heal yourself, or even reveal the opponents stats before battling.
The Arcade Mode gives you a head start, or even a fucked up start in battle, when a flashing board gives out things like rented berries, paralysis to either party etc.
And now to my personal favourite, a sort of Survival Mode in wich you enter a Pokémon, and then choose what element you wish to fight.
After the element is defeated, you can choose to fight the same element in rank 2+, or another element. Strategically getting you the highest winning streak and ascending to be No.1
And offcourse the Battle Tower is still there, waiting for your nerdiness to challenge.
I was overjoyed, and Pokémon Platinum actually did it. After a series of letdowns, they gave me something new to keep me happy enough to play the game 'til completion.
Now that the spirits fell on again, I also felt like exploring all the new features. Such as the Wi-Fi plaza where you can challenge random people from all over to three new minigames.
The update in the GTS letting you upload your battle videos, favourite box of Pokémon for display, or even your favourite fashion-photo.
And offcourse the alternative to snoop in random peoples boxes and videos.
They also made one more post-game thing for us all.
Releasing some old legends into Sinnoh.
After completion of the Sinnoh region Pokédex, you can now have the three elemental birds from R/B/Y released into the wild, awesome!
Other features making Platinum grow on me are as follows:
-Updated GTS with E-mail support.
-Animated Trainer Sprites ( Important NPC's/Gym leaders )
-Faster Battles then D/P
-Sinnoh dex now has 210 pokemon with greater typing before the E4.
-Giratina, Rotom, and Shaymin all have new forme's.
-The option to refight gym leaders at a higher level.
-The return of high leveled AI with E4's Second match having pokemon up to level 78!
-More move tutors
-A Full 3D area, The Torn World, is added.
-You can now cath both Palkia/Dialga
-The Three Regi's (only if you have movie regigagis, no word on how it'll work on english version) can now be caught.
-Every Pokémon now has foreign Pokédex entries if they have been traded over from a Pokémon game in any of the following languages; Japanese, English, French, German, Spanish or Italian
