Tracker Listing/Download Speed

Jan 17, 2008, 07:45 PM [Reply]

For those of you who are a little behind on how to speed your downloads, as I am, I have devised a simple method for you... and for the geeks out there that know a better way or knew about this already, give me some props, I figured this out on my own.

If you open your downloading torrent's "Properties..." option under the right click menu, you will notice a tab that says "Advanced."  Click to that tab and at the top of the tab page you will notice a "Tracker List."  These are the trackers that are mandating where you are uploading/downloading from.  If you check out a couple of different files, you will undoubtedly notice a few different trackers (and some torrents come with quite a hefty list).

My method is simple.  Copy that list and keep a text file record of tracker listings.  I have done so myself.  Now, whenever you start downloading a new torrent, copy that ever growing list and paste it AFTER the existing trackers on the torrents tracker list.  I stress the after part, because you don't want to paste and erase your original tracker... you may have to start the download again.

After you do this, give your torrent some time to connect to the trackers.  Some may connect, some may not; it depends on if the torrent is a registered file on that tracker network.  If you find that there are a few (or sometimes more than a few depending on the file's popularity) that don't connect (this you can see under the "Trackers" option at the bottom of your downloads screen, under "Comments" and such) you simply go back under the torrent's properties menu and delete from the newly pasted list those that have not connected.

The process can be a little labor intensive, and can bog down a slow net connection when you're trying to login to a list of many trackers, but it can greatly increase your download speed once you get it done and over with.  The simply reason behind it is more trackers, means more P2P networks, means more people, means more available copies of the file you want.

Just as a little bonus I'll add the abridged version of trackers that I have the best luck doing this with below.  Simply copy the list, paste, and then start building off of it as you make your own.   There are many trackers out there, and some don't always have the file you need, but hey, it's working for me.  Good luck!

This is not a great idea.

It will slow down how quickly you connect to your first peers because you will be spending your first several seconds (or minutes, if the list is long) marching through the list of trackers.

If the swarm is truly a multi-tracker swarm, then all of the trackers are going to list all of the same peers, anyway. There is little point in querying them all.

WHAT YOU CAN DO is ENABLE DHT in Options, Advanced, Connection. Log in to MemberZone. And open Properties for each download, and make sure that the options to find peers via all the various methods listed there are enabled. Make sure that you are connectable (Green Light).
