Director Rumors Start For Next Jack Ryan Picture

Director Rumors Start For Next Jack Ryan Picture A couple of days ago we reported about the possibility of a new Jack Ryan movie, one that could somewhat overhaul the franchise by replacing everyone that had been involved previously. No Harrison Ford (or Ben Affleck for the younger Ryan), no Tom Clancy, and no return for Phillip Noyce, the most experienced director for the franchise.

Just because the existing players are being replaced doesn’t mean this sequel is automatically doomed, however. For one, actor Ryan Gosling’s name is being tossed around to take over the role of Jack Ryan. Gosling’s skill as an actor really shouldn’t be questioned, so at least they’re trying to get some talent involved.

Now Moviehole is reporting that an equally skilled director may be brought on board. Apparently Paramount is eying Fernando Meirelles, director of City of God and City of Men, to take the reins for the next picture, By Any Means Necessary. While Meirelles doesn’t have the action experience of Noyce, this could make a very interesting direction for the series.

Of course, nobody has signed on yet – not Gosling or Meirelles, so all of this is speculative based on rumors about studio hopes. We could still wind up with a Brent Ratner production starring Freddie Prinze Jr. as Jack Ryan, so don’t get too excited until some confirmation comes.
