Douglas And Others Haunting Matthew McConaughey

Feb 07, 2008, 03:36 PM [Reply]

Douglas And Others Haunting Matthew McConaughey Ghosts of Girlfriends Past still sounds like the most generic, annoying romantic comedy in the world, but that isn’t stopping a whole slew of actors from getting involved in the project. Michael Douglas has joined the cast, along with Anne Archer (TV’s Ghost Whisperer) and Robert Forster (Jackie Brown).

The movie’s director, Mark Waters, kind of scooped Variety a few days ago in an article reported over at ComingSoon.net. He told the journalists at a junket for his next movie, The Spiderwick Chronicles, that Douglas would be playing “a '70s playboy, who was his mentor and he wears Bob Evans shades and guides him around the ghost world.”

Wait, Bob Evans shades? Ghost world? Well, I can’t blame you for not keeping up with the details on this one. Ghosts of Girlfriends Past stars Matthew McConaughey as a serial womanizer invited to his brother’s wedding. While there he’s confronted by many of his old flames, including Jennifer Garner. Emma Stone of Superbad was also cast as a ghostly guide, and now it looks like she and Douglas will be making a team effort. If Ghosts is based off A Christmas Carol, Douglas is kind of Jacob Marley: the cautionary tale from the past to show you how your life might be if you don’t shape up.

It sounds like a fairly funny part, actually, and Douglas seems capable of doing the regretful playboy. Still doesn’t make me want to see the movie, though. No siree. Those ads for Fool’s Gold have burned me enough, and I’m steering clear of the McConaughey for the time being.
