By now you’ve certainly heard that the James Bond movie that will follow-up Casino Royale is the oddly named Quantum of Solace. Other than the people chose the name, nobody seems to like it or even understand what it is supposed to mean. James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, is defending the title and explaining that it is somehow related to the plot. That always helps. Still, the guy who wrote the plot isn’t really supporting that assertion.

Screenwriter Paul Haggis told MTV Movies Blog that he has no idea what the title means. When asked about the meaning of the title, he said “I have no idea. It’s not my title,” he said. When the guy who wrote the script doesn’t know what the title means, it probably wasn’t the best choice. Not only does Haggis not know what it means, he clearly doesn’t like it, either. When asked for his opinion of the phrase, he answered with a “no comment.”

When it comes right down to it, though, who gives a flying crap about the title. If the movie is good, will it really be lessened in some way if it has a stupid title. The title is probably 746th on the list of the 750 things that are key to a movie being good. Calling it James Bond’s Next Movie would still pack in the Bond fans and non-fans will go based on the things that always bring them in; the trailer, the critical reception, their friend’s opinions. Let’s all chill about this stupid title and hope what comes after the title card is worth seeing.
