It’s taken nearly a decade, but Tim Allen has finally poked his head out of the money pit Disney built him and realized he’s a walking talking joke. So now he’s on a quest to be taken seriously, with a role in David Mamet’s new movie Redbelt, and now this: Tim Allen is about to direct his first movie.
Variety says the movie is an indie-comedy called Crazy on the Outside. It’s “adult-themed” which probably means rated-R and as far from the normal kiddie fare Allen usually beats us down with as possible. In addition to directing, Tim the Toolman will star in the film as a parolee trying to adjust to life on the outside with his quirky sister.
It’s an independently financed film, but don’t take that to mean this is something Tim Allen is doing with a local theater group. The cast is pretty salty. Allen will co-star with Ray Liotta, Carrie-Anne Moss, Julie Bowen, and Kelsey Grammer. Can Tim Allen direct? I’m not even sure he can act. Crazy on the Outside may answer both questions in one fell swoop.
