Sam Mendes has decided to increase the pace of his movie making schedule. He has only directed two films since American Beauty won the Oscar in 1999, but now plans on releasing two films in two years. Revolutionary Road is set to release at the end of this year, and, as we told you in January, he will direct an untitled comedy for release in 2009.
Although the comedy still doesn’t have a name, it has its stars. According to Variety, John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph have signed on to bring Mendes’ comedy to life. The Office’s favorite boy toy and the SNL mainstay will play a couple expecting a baby who travel the country looking for a good place to raise their child. That doesn’t exactly scream hilarity to me, but I’m sure it will get fleshed out a bit. Cheryl Hines will co-star in an undefined role.
The movie will likely be a darling of the intellectually hip. Author Dave Eggers and his wife, Vendela Vida wrote the screenplay and Mendes isn’t afraid to toss pretension on in great heaping scoops as we just pointed out recently. I like Krasinski, but with a recent movie resume that includes License to Wed and Shrek the Third, he does not get a free pass. Shooting is set to begin in April.
