"Fusion" is an album I´ve been listening to in a regular basis and every single time I get impressed by the quality of this music. It would do some good for the tons of bad gothic metal bands to take a look at this...maybe they´ll learn something about what good music sounds like.
Eilera is a female fronted band from France. As the title of the album already reveals, this is not mainstream music. Experimentation and mixing of genres are present in great proportions. With a mix of rock and metal at the core of the sounds, Eilera created an unbelievable cohesive LP with electronics, orchestration and excellent vocal performance by Aurélie Potin Suau. She sometimes reminds me a lot of Björk, especially because of the weird dissonant vocal lines.
With the synthetic tendencies of modern music, it is not strange that metal bands (besides the industrial ones) started to use some electronic flourishes. Good examples of this are bands such Samael, ...And Oceans, Diablerie, Lux Occulta and The Project Hate MCMXCIX. Electronics in metal may have an interesting outcome insofar they don´t diminish the complexity of the music. Eilera managed to do so effectively and without compromising melody.
A great album indeed and a valid recommendation to anyone who wants to take a listen to good gothic metal among the awful amount of shitty bands around...
