Let’s get one thing straight, Judd Apatow is a freakin’ comedic genius. Although I didn’t think Walk Hard was so great and it seems like Drillbit Taylor is a bit of bust, the guy gave us two of the best comedies of 2007, Superbad and Knocked-Up. It’s not just here that he is worshiped as a comedy god, the Canadians are hot for him, too.

The Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal has named Apatow “Comedy Person of the Year.” He’ll receive the honor at their annual soiree in July. According to Variety, the Festival’s Chief Operating Officer, Bruce Hills, said "We are very proud to honor someone who started his career in standup and has become one of the most important and dynamic forces in comedy.” It also doesn’t hurt that Apatow and the Festival will enjoy a little mutual publicity.

The Just For Laughs Festival is the largest comedy event in the world, according to Just For Laughs and their marketing people. It’s not clear exactly which year Apatow is the top comedy person. It’s can’t be for 2008, since his one release so far hasn’t done well. It must be for 2007. Or maybe it’s just a way for Apatow to help the Festival and the Festival to help Apatow push his upcoming comedies. Either way, the guy is getting his due.
