Valkyrie Reshoots Finally Happening

Jun 04, 2008, 06:39 PM [Reply]

By now, the repeated delays in the release date of Valkyrie, the movie where Tom Cruise tries to assassinate Hitler, are old news. The stated reason is that some more scenes needed to be filmed, especially one that told how Cruise’s character, Col. Claus von Stauffenberg, was wounded in battle. So, although the original plan was to release the film this month, we are now going to have to wait until next February.

I guess it was good that they did move the date, since, according to the blog of Variety editor Peter Bart, the reshoots are just now taking place. Bart says that there are three scenes being filmed, including the battle scene. Hopefully the reshoots will not need reshoots and they won’t let everyone go home until they have everything they need, or we may never see this movie.

I actually do want to see this. It’s easy to make fun of the changing release dates (and I have, twice), but I’m strongly interested in seeing Cruise in this role and have some faith in director Bryan Singer to make it an interesting movie. Bart supports my faith by saying that people he trusts have seen the film (or, at least, the film without these “key” scenes) who say it is good. That’s encouraging.
