Zack Snyder showed up this morning at the San Diego Comic Con, with nearly all of his Watchmen in tow, to talk about the film and show off amazing new footage. He dropped news on the song everyone’s been talking about in the soundtrack, which we reported here, and we’ll have a full report of the panel, including photos, later this week. But there’s no way you can go on living without at least some clue of what Snyder showed us.

The footage he played lasted about 60 seconds. Like the trailer which you’ve by now already seen, it’s mostly a collection of images and scenes. In fact, Snyder used several scenes which you’ve already seen in the trailer, only giving a more extended look at them.

It started with a closeup on Rorschach’s mask, and launched into a series of mind-blowing shots, some lifted straight out of the comic. Here’s a quick breakdown on some of the amazing footage we saw:

- Closeups on Rorschach’s shifting, changing, inkblot mask
- Long sequence of Manhattan disintegrating multiple Vietnamese soldiers with a wave of his hand. Much more graphic than anything you see in the trailer. He points, and they disintegrate in a gory mass of exploding flesh.
- We see Rorschach in the Comedian’s apartment searching for clues. There’s a picture on his dresser. Is it Silk Spectre? Rorschach finds Comedian’s costume, behind a secret panel.
- Malin Ackerman in full costume, opening her blouse. Footage cuts away just before reaching the nipple threshold.
- Longer, much more graphic version of Manhattan’s first disintegration. We see everything. His skeleton, his eyes in their sockets. Pieces, all going to pieces.
- Nite Owl and Silk Spectre kissing in front of an expanding mushroom cloud.
- Long slow shots of the Smiley face, and its infamous drop of blood. Dripping, falling.
- We see Dan in the rain.
- Dan sitting in a chair next to his costume, distraught. Head in hands.
- Shot of Dollar Bill dead and bloody, with his cape caught in the revolving door.
- Giant size Manhattan, his hand reaching into a building and snatching someone, almost King Kong style.
