Doctor general_practitioner Blood examination

Serious General Practitioner

Hi there,

This morning I had to be at the doctor (Genral Practitioner) real early. I had an appointment at 8 AM. So I was really not amused, normally I still sleep by then. The doctor I have recently, since previously I had doctors from the mental hospital, but now I have my own General Practitioner. Anyways, I went to see him for fatigue complaints I have. Maybe it's just psychological, have had a lot of changes in my life recently, but the complaints are lasting for 2 weeks now, so I wanted to have the doctor check on me. Well, he asked a few questions about my lifestyle, any previous disseases etc. the usual and he said I was probably a normal stress reaction, and it would wear off in a few weeks. BUT this doctor doesn't like to do guesses, so he wanted to be sure I have nothing physically wrong. So he ordered a bloodtest on some default values that should be in my blood. So I had to go to the hospital for one of these:

Blood Examination

(I can't really translate it, they're medical terms) (In Dutch: Schildklier, FSH, TSH, bloedplasma waarden etc.)

So even before breakfast, they already tapped 2 vials of blood from me... I could handle it, but it did sting a bit. The nurse had a hard time finding the vain, but when she did she stuck the needle in really hard... That Bitch. ;-)

Well, in 2 days I get the results. But I think it's nothing physical. Maybe I just need to take a rest more often and have sex a little less times a night. Cause with my GF sleeping over here almost two weeks now, I wake up really early while we go to bed around midnight, then have sex, before you know its 2 AM and my GF always is awake at 7AM and that awakens me aswell - even though I stay in bed till 8:30AM I have had a short night by then... Well, that's all that kept me busy today. Now I'm just enjoying Desperate Housewifes with my GF (It's On Demand, I have Digital TV so we can watch all episodes at once, without commercial breaks) And tonight I'm going to make a real dinner for the two of us. (Most of the time we eat microwave dinners, but they are not as good as a self prepared nutricious meal)

You ever had a blood exam? What was it for? (I just had my 20th or something for various reasons medication, STD's etc) Please feel free to comment and don't forget to vote ;-)

  • By Law, they can't test you on anything they have not informed you about. If you refuse a drugtest, they'll have to obay. That is, unless you are a suspect of a crime, since you live in the USA they can perform a drugtest with suspects without their permission. Here in the Netherlands they can't. But to make it more clear to you that it's not likely that they test you on drugs: A bloodtest for every substance they want to test costs $30,- on average. So if they want to screen all possible drugs ... that would be hundreds of dollars, and without your permission, your health insurrance doesn't pay for it, but the government has to.
