Elektra is loathed, Catch and Release is a flop. Jennifer Garner could use a good movie role. It’s a good thing she’s married to Ben Affleck, because it doesn’t look like she’s getting one. Variety says she’s signed up for a riff on the old Pygmalion story. Luckily, her marriage to Ben will keep her a celebrity as long as he’s one.
The movie is Devil in the Junior League. It’s an adaptation of a book by Linda Francis Lee about a stuffy Southern Socialite whose husband runs off with another woman and her money. Broke and desperate, she turns to a lawyer who promises to get her fortune back in exchange for helping his socially inappropriate wife get into something called the Junior League. I assume that’s some sort of hoity-toity social club. I live in the south, but I’m the son of a K-Mart mechanic raised in a tiny rural Texas town. We’re lucky I eat with a fork, let alone know what the Junior League is.
Jen is producing the film and may possibly star in it. It’s not clear which role she’d take. I have a hard time seeing her as a southern socialite, but she doesn’t really fit as the inappropriate wife either… unless the wife does semi-impressive Judo chops.
