Dear reader, in this post I will try to get a question I have about Vista and my internal cardreader awnsered. Please comment any suggestions.
Here's the problem:
I have an internal cardreader and you can read my system specs here To sum up, I have a Sweex All-in-One Internal Cardreader for USB2. Now normally, I mean under Windows XP this would give me 4 extra drive letters for every possible cardreader slot. But in vista is does not. It does recognize the flash reader but only gives 1 drive for it, and no matter what card I try, it doesn't popup in the drive. I am using Windows Vista Ultimate b.t.w. The cardreader itself DOES show a green light when I put in a card, so it really is a software problem.
Be sure to check my system specifications, if you are a bit smart with computers, cause I noticed some more people with the same problem also having an Asus P5 motherboard ... but I do not have enough evidence to support the theory that it is the motherboard (i.e. the USB2 Controller) that causes the problem.
Cause this is where it get's really weird: When I plug in an external cardreader, IT DOES WORK! Just a plain external cardreader plugged into USB port works fine, shows 4 drives etc. But I don't get it, cause my internal cardreader is plugged into a USB-port on the motherbord as wel (special cable, you'd have to know something about the internals of a PC to know what I am talking about)
Well to sum it up:
- I built my computer myself from all NEW parts so everything is working fine as for hardware.
- Under WindowsXP the cardreader DOES work in Vista it does not
- An external cardreader DOES work under Vista
I tried installing XP USB drivers using an ugly hack, but that didn't work either for the internal Flashreader.
I really don't get it... What the f*ck is wrong with this cardreader not beïng recognized as 4 separate drives under Vista?!!
Please help me and leave a comment if you have any suggestions.
Life is what you make it.
