Today we learned that Eric Bana is set to play the villain in Star Trek, and we have a guy cast as Spock, Checkov is covered, Uhura is cast… what happened to hiring a Captain Kirk? There’s still no final word on who will play James T, but IESB thinks they know who Trek helmer JJ Abrams may be looking at.

They say a relatively unknown young actor named Chris Pine is in talks with Paramount to sit in the Enterprise’s captain’s chair. Of course two weeks ago IESB said a guy named Mike Vogel was the frontrunner for the part. Make up your mind guys!

Pine was last seen in Carnahan’s Smokin’ Aces as one of the crazed Tremor brothers, and was also the male lead in the Lindsay Lohan movie Just My Luck. He’s the right age to fit what we’ve heard Abrams’ is looking for, but for now just throw him on the heap with Mike Vogel and all the dozens of others who’ve been rumored for the part. Production on Star Trek starts soon, expect real answers any time now. Till then, if you’re between the ages of 20 and 30, and you’ve ever appeared in anything, there’s a good chance that you too could be rumored to play Captain James T. Kirk.
