Trekkies are starting to wake up from their long slumber. Last week we told you here about a very special, theatrical screening of the classic, original series Star Trek episode “The Menagerie” happening in April. In the short time since the event’s announcement, there’s been so much interest that they’re adding more showings.

Now you’ll have two chances to catch Star Trek: The Menagerie in HD on the big screen. Here’s the full announcement:

“Boldly go where no man has gone before to see two of the most famous “Star Trek: The Original Series” episodes – your local movie theatre! By popular demand a second night has been added!! “Star Trek: The Original Series” will be beamed onto the big screen for two nights only in select movie theatres nationwide on Tuesday, Nov. 13th at 7:30PM (local) and on Thursday, November 15th at 7:30PM & 10:30PM (local). This event features the original Season 1 episodes “The Menagerie” Part 1 and 2, digitally re-mastered in High-Definition and Cinema Surround Sound. Also included is greeting from creator Gene Roddenberry’s son, Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry and an exclusive 30-minute behind-the-scenes look at how the episodes were digitally re-mastered. “

Trailers for the Menagerie event have already started popping up in theaters and that image to your right is the event’s official theatrical poster. It looks like they’re really going all out with this thing. CB’s box office expert Scott Gwin believes this is Hollywood testing the waters for the impending strike (after all they’re going to need something to show in theaters when movies stop being made), but I prefer to think that we Trekkies are finally being rewarded for putting up with all the shit Rick Berman has dragged Star Trek through since Voyager. Reality is probably somewhere in between our two views, actually somebody probably just realized this was a quick way to make a buck. Whatever. I’m there!
