HOLLYWOOD - Britney Spears is "in pieces" after losing custody of her two sons to ex-husband Kevin Federline, according to a close pal.

The troubled singer has been ordered to hand over kids Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, after Federline's lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan called an emergency hearing in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday morning.

And Spears, 25, is devastated over the ruling.

A source close to the star says, "She is in pieces. The boys are her life.

"She hasn't stopped crying since she found out. It hasn't sunk in yet. We really don't know how she will cope with losing them. A life without them is unimaginable for her."
