A Prodigy to Reflect On
“Homecoming” by Green Day is a five-piece song that contains five major elements. These five elements are the dawn of suicide, desperation of freedom from one’s own mind, tendency of being forgotten, pleasures in life, and the rebirth of one’s mental state into the world. These factors are the foundation of the poem as a whole and reflect the true passionate essence of it.
The Death of St. Jimmy expresses the feeling of a deeper status of the mind in which one must deal with the temptation of suicide. This state of mind forces one to carry a heavy burden throughout their daily life. When one feels they have lost everything, they cannot help the overflow of insecurity and deeper emotion.
East 12th Street further describes how one feels in the midst of these times. The author reflects on his own notion in which Jesus has no concern for our problems. The road of inescapability is the puzzling crisis that one must overcome, and the path of freedom is non-existent but is yet waiting to be discovered.
Part three conveys the idea that societal forces are only ones of negativity and will not help you in any way. The tendency of being forgotten and disregarded for life has a destructive impact on one’s life. This will psychologically damage and corrupt one’s mind into seeing the beauty of suicide and the ineffectiveness of hope.
In part four however, there is a reassurance that there are pleasures in life that will restore the lost hope and security needed to overcome this mental insanity. This restoration of hope along with a large-scale magnitude of hardship will ensure one life again as it once was.
We’re Coming Home Again informs us that the road of hardship can only be conquered through one’s own willingness to do so along with the strength produced not by society, but by the aspects of life that we tend to see as blessings. This part further explains the process of the renewing of the mind into the voluntary state that can be freed into the world again. It goes on to tell of all the wonderful rewards at the end of this depressed-like degree of mind.
The obvious message in this work is the idea of hope. We all experience some sort of sorrow or pain in our lives and, as a reaction, we are to put our trust in Jesus during these times. For he will never forsake us and eventually, he will lead us through this darkness and renew us into the light we once knew.
The meaning behind this song is the conclusion that society has a major impact on our state of mind. Also, this work sends a message saying that our own pleasures will help us to overcome the battle of life.
“Homecoming” reveals the selfishness of mankind in the society of today, and emphasizes the importance of Jesus in our daily lives. Creating a constructive effect on our society, this poem will influence mankind to be less selfish and to show more respect for Jesus. For Jesus will lead us back home, and there is no better place than home.
